Peach Cobbler

The sun settles low over the bayou, painting the world in golden light. Grandma’s front porch creaks softly as her rocking chair sways with the evening wind. A soft cushion awaits on the seat, and her crocheted blanket, mad for those cool southern nights, hangs gently over the back of the chair. Marigolds and rose bushes bloom on the lefthand side the steps, her peach tree stands on the right of her steps proudly and heavy with fruit. There are hummingbirds that dart through the air while their hatchlings chirp in their nest. As the day turns into night, the solar string lights flicker on, casting a gentle glow over everything she’s nurtured with love.

From the kitchen, there’s a strong yet beautiful scent, the kind of scent that brings back the best of your precious childhood memories. You smell the buttery crust. caramelized sugar, ripe fresh peaches, and a whisper of cinnamon and vanilla. She places the golden cobbler on top of the stove.
